Eleanor May-Johnson
I was fascinated by pregnancy and birth as an teenager but it wasn’t until my third daughter started nursery, that I was able train to become a midwife. I graduated from Bournemouth University in 2003 and have been a caseload midwife ever since, both in the NHS and the independent sector.
In 2013, I launched Neighbourhood Midwives along with 3 midwifery colleagues, working as the organisations' Clinical Co-ordinator. Throughout my time at Neighbourhood Midwives, I kept a clinical aspect to my role and continued to provide midwifery care to a small caseload of women and tongue tie division in my weekly Oxfordshire clinic.
Since Neighbourhood Midwives closed in Jan 2019, I have returned to Independent Practice and now provide antenatal and postnatal care to women in the Hampshire area. I am also a qualified tongue tie practitioner and run a weekly session in Wantage, Oxfordshire, as well as offering home appointments to families in the Southampton and surrounding areas.
I am still as passionate about midwifery as ever and it has been my great privilege to share the journey through pregnancy, birth and into parenthood with the women and families I care for. I have experience in VBAC (sometimes after several caesarean sections), HBAC, homebirth, waterbirth, twins (both at home and in hospital) and breech birth. I have also cared for many women with complex medical and emotional needs. Due to a recent back injury, I have had to make the decision to stop providing labour and birth care.
